It is important to understand the special numbering pattern followed in this updating process. The same system used in the Family History Book is followed here as well. English letters A, B, C, D, …. are used to identify the first, second, third, fourth, and so on generations. A letter combined with a number from 1, 2, 3, 4, …… identifies a member in a particular branch.
The Palathumpattu Family at Kodukulanji starts with Ninan (Nina). His brother named Kurien settled in Pazhayaru Vadakethil, Venmony. These two brothers are called the First-Generation Fathers, labelled with numbers A1 for Ninan and A2 for Kurien. (Kurien’s family is described only briefly in section 6 in the book.) Ninan’s sons Ouseph Ninan (Panappallil), Chandy Ninan (Melemadathil Kizhakku), Idicula Ninan (Varikayil), and Kunju Ninan (Palathumpattu Kudumbom) and daughters Aleyamma Cherian of Chenkal, Kodukulanji and Saramma Chacko of Kootozhathil, Venmony form the second generation of Palathumpattu family. The four males are given numbers B1, B2, B3, and B4 respectively and their descendants are described in detail in the first four sections in the book while the two females are briefly mentioned together under section 5 with numbers B5, and B6 respectively.

As our family is very large updating is a tedious process. The policy is to fully update
male branches, and limit female branches to two or three generations only. This is due
to the practical difficulty of getting information, and to follow the general tradition of
family inheritance by males. (We know that exception to this tradition is where there
are only female children in a family. Usually in this situation the youngest daughter with
her husband carries the line of inheritance by living in the Kudumbom house.)

Poomottil Varghese Mathunny went to eternal rest on June 22, 1984, at the age of 75. His wife Annamma Mathunny passed away to eternity on April 23, 1997, at the age of 76. F2. Alice Pothen: Alice retired from the Accounts department and her husband V.M. Pothen retired from the Geology department of Madhya Pradesh government service. They are living in Valuparampil house at Anjilithanam. Their children are Johnson P. Mathai, Minu Mathew Pothen, and Varghese Pothen (Biju).
G1. Johnson P. Mathai passed away on eternity on December 31st, 2000, at the age of 38.
G2. Minu Mathew Pothen, M.A, LLB is working as a Computer Specialist in the government service at Jabalpur. He is married to Mini Mathew MSc., B.Ed. She is a Teacher/Assistant Principal in a high school in Jabalpur. They have two daughters: Mincy Mathew and Mercy Mathew. Mincy earned a bachelor’s degree in law and is employed in New Delhi as a legal advisor. Mercy is studying for her B. Com degree in Bangalore.

As a sincere and active member of C.S.I Congregation of Hudson Valley, New York he served as a member of its committee, and vice-president. His wife Achamma Mathew retired from work as a childcare specialist for disabled children in an institution in New York. Their children: Joby, Jibi and Jini.
G1. Mathew Joby George: After completing Software Engineering and MBA in Strategy and Finance he works as a Senior Director at Mastercard in New York. Married to Genu Thomas George, BS in nursing, daughter of Thomas Varghese and Rosamma Thomas, Chakkittayil house, Kerala. She is serving as a nurse at a hospital in New York. They have two children, Ethan Jacob George studying in grade 7 and Dylan Matthew George studying in grade 4. This family is residing in Yorktown, NY.

Annie Jibi Thomas: Completed BS and MS in nursing; She is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner; Currently, working as a Clinical Faculty/Nurse Educator at a hospital in Bronx, and pursuing studies on a DNP degree. Married to Thomas Sanjay Cherian, s/o Cherian Thomas and Rachel Cherian from Vattapparampil House, Kerala. He completed his bachelor’s degree in IT and manages his own Event Management company. Prof. Dr. Easow Mathew; Took initiative in organizing the Palathumpattu Family Union at Kodukulanji. Served as its first secretary from 1993 to 1996. Also, authored the Family History Book published in 1994. He immigrated to the USA with family in 1996. Lives in Yonkers, NY. Earned PhD in Physics Education in 2008. Completed 51 years of teaching in 2023. Working as a Physics/Math professor at a famous University in New York. He developed and published SuperMath 48, an educational card game in 2018; Received a Teacher Excellence award from the University in the same year. Wrote and published five volumes of Christian devotional music albums, titled Sneha Sangeetham. Also published a poetry book, Kavyasandhesam in 2023. His wife Elizabeth Mathew retired from her clerical job in New York. Children: Leju and Lenu
G1. Rev. Dr. Varghese E. Mathew (Leju Achen): Completed BA in Psychology, MA in Religious Studies, and Doctorate in Ministry. As an adjunct professor taught Philosophy and Religion in a University in New York for about ten years. Received ordination as a priest on July 9th, 2011, while being a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Valley Cottage, New York. Served as a missionary priest in many Episcopal and C.S.I churches in and around New York State. Now he serves as Priest-in-Charge of an Episcopal church in New York diocese. Married to Anu Koshy Mathew, M S in Nursing; daughter of Koshy Ittykunju and Sally Ittykunju of Thoppil house, Manganam. She works as a Nurse Practitioner in a hospital in New York. They have two children, Francis V. Mathew (Unnikuttan) studying in grade 8, and Bethsaida Eliza Mathew (Vava) studying in grade 4.
G2. Ann E. Cherian (Lenu): Completed BS and MS in Nursing and is serving as a Charge Nurse in a Hospital in New York City. Married to Ajo Cherian s/o Cherian P. Cherian and Rachel Cherian living in Yonkers. Ajo completed BS in Computer Engineering and MS in Information Systems. He is working as an IT technician at a school in New York City. Sosamma retired from her job as Registered Nursing supervisor and is living in Yonkers, New York. Her husband George John Chalunkal entered eternity on May 10, 2022. Children:
G1. Brite John Chalunkal earned D.O. medical degree from NYIT, and is practicing as a medical doctor in Dallas, Texas. His wife Ashley Varghese has a doctorate in Physical Therapy. She is also working in Dallas. Their children: Isabella Ann Chalunkal, in grade 7, Giana Chalunkal, in grade 6, and Christian George Chalunkal, in grade 2.
G2. Ben John Chalunkal earned a BSN degree and works in a hospital in New York. His wife Reena Varghese from New City has a doctorate in Physical Therapy and is working in New York. Their children: Ryan Chalunkal, in grade 6, Adalyn Chalunkal in grade 5, and Haily Chalunkal, in grade 2.

Saramma Koshy and her husband Abraham Koshy immigrated to the United States with children in 1996. Saramma worked as a substitute high school teacher in Chicago Public Schools; also, as a physical therapist assistant. Koshy retired as senior engineer at Motorola US in Chicago. Their children Rency and Mancy:

Kurien Mathew retired from the United States Postal department after 30 years of service. His wife Mini Mathew works as a registered nurse in New York, They have two daughters, Gladys and Jaime.

Poomottil Varghese Thomas (Thankachan) went to eternal rest on December 19, 1962, at the age of 45. His wife Thankamma Thomas passed away to eternity on February 29, 2008, at the age of 79. F2. Thomas Poomoottil John worked in India as Chief Technical Coordinator/Chief Cameraman in Kairali TV, Asianet, TV18 and BITV; received a Rotary award for his distinguished work. He designed the logo for Power Vison, the first Christian TV channel in India, and served as a member of its director board.
Thomas immigrated to the USA with his wife and son in 2011. Lives in Bloomington Indiana. He works as a maintenance engineer at Marriott Hotel. His wife Salomy Thomas (d/o P.O. Joseph and Aleyamma Joseph, Puthuvelil house, Chengannur) retired as laboratory technician and dental assistant. Their Children:
G1. Jaime Thomas, BSc (Nursing), currently resides in Chelmsford, UK; and serves in the NHS. She is married to Shine Varughese, BSc (Computer Science), MBA, son of Varughese Daniel and Mariamma Varughese (Vadakkel House, Mallapally).
